Dr. Sumanth Cherukumilli Awarded 2024 PIDS Fellowship

Dr. Sumanth Cherukumilli (Class of 2018) Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellow, University of Maryland School of Medicine, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 PIDS Plotkin and Sanofi Pasteur Fellowship Award by the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS) for his research on bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance among neonates in West Africa. Additionally, his abstract titled “High Mortality Rates and Antimicrobial Resistance in Children with Invasive Bacterial Infections in a Tertiary Care Facility in West Africa” has been selected as the TOP Oral Abstract presentation at the St. Jude/PIDS Global Conference. The fellowship provides $100,000 in funding over two years, with $50,000 allocated each year, which began on July 1, 2024. The award will be officially announced at the PIDS Annual Meeting during IDWeek 2024 on October 18. Dr. Cherukumilli’s work will significantly contribute to understanding and combating infectious diseases in neonatal and pediatric populations.
